Let's celebrate our mothers with a giveaway!

Biology is the least of what makes someone a mother. ~Oprah Winfrey

Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body. ~Elizabeth Stone

You don't really understand human nature unless you know why a child on a merry-go-round will wave at his parents every time around - and why his parents will always wave back. ~William D. Tammeus

Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible. ~Marion C. Garretty, quoted in A Little Spoonful of Chicken Soup for the Mother's Soul

Sweater, n.: garment worn by child when its mother is feeling chilly. ~Ambrose Bierce

I was sidetracked earlier in the week by a bug that made us all sick, so I am late in getting this up, but I wanted to post it anyway. Better late then never!

I wanted to have a giveaway in honor of Mother's Day. To say thank you to all of the women who are mothers to us for all they have done and all they continue to do. This is my second Mother's Day without my precious mama, but as I have said here before, I know that she is at peace, and am thankful to God every day for that. I miss her terribly, but want to celebrate her life and her love for me at this special time of year.

In honor of my mother, an avid gardener, photographer and nature-lover, my children and I are planting flowers in our yard. I am thrilled that my children share a love of growing things - it must be genetic!

To enter, please leave a comment here on how you celebrate and honor your mother, or anyone who is like a mother to you. I am excited to hear about your celebrations, memories and tributes. Share your stories with us!

I will draw the winner's name out of a hat on May 31st! And the winner will receive a 5x7 print of the poppy photo above. Be sure to leave me a way to get in touch with you!

Thank you for stopping by ! I look forward to hearing your stories!

Happy Mother's Day!

Take care, allie

This year my mom & I are going to a bridal shower on Mother's Day, but afterward my dad is making dinner for everyone :) One thing that's neat about Mother's Day now is that I'm a mom too, so my mom and I have that in common, and it's been really fun bonding with her since my son was born.

Every year I take my mom around to the gardening store and we get our annuals. We then stop off at the cemetary and say hello to her mom and the to lunch from there. We spend the afternoon deciding what pots to plant which flowers. And then, if the weather is nice, and evening on the front porch swing with some lemonade.

Happy Mother's Day to you!! Sorry to hear about your mother.

Every mother's day I have my parents, my sister and her family and my in-laws over for breakfast. It is a nice time! We all can sit back relax and chat about whatever!!!

Thanks for the giveaway!

Since my mom enjoyed buying plants and growing them, I tend to accumulate many houseplants... my orchid collection is growing, since this was her favorite flower to grow.

oooh, gorgeous poppy!!

Actually, I don't get to see my mom for Mother's Day, but I called her on the phone and wished her well. And then we discussed the book we both just finished and chatted about random stuff for about a half hour like we do every day.

Then we both logged onto Etsy (she's a seller and a FAM, too) and we sent each other links to all sorts of stuff we love. Basically, today was like any other day. But I'm lucky that we are close and keep in touch all the time.

And speaking of poppies... I had my friend Karen paint her a custom poppy watercolor for Mother's Day, which I'll be framing and giving her when I see her in a few weeks. We both love poppies!

My and my siblings made a poolside lunch for my mom, treated her to a manicure and pedicure and then out to dinner. Quality time is what she wanted most!

My mother loves to bathe. I always get her a supply of bubble bath for mother's day. I try to get her a good book as well. She lives by herself and doesn't like to cook. I try to cook her a home cooked meal. This always reminds me of my grandmother, the best cook ever.

My mother has passed away. I am taking my boyfriend's mother out to eat. She likes gardening and thinks that those upside down tomato planters are neato. soooo we're got her one of those. We spent about $50 ordering it online and then saw them for 10 bucks at Walgreens. =)
