I Heart Faces Constructive Feedback Friday

I have been really working on improving my portrait skills, so I am very excited to participate in this week's Constructive Feedback Friday from i ♥ faces. During this feature, photographers offer each other constructive criticism on a photo. The photo I have chosen is one of my favorite portraits I have taken, but I want to appeal to a larger audience. I'd love to hear your comments.

Straight out of the camera

edit one

edit two
I used the camera bag application to edit this photograph, and I used my P&S to shoot this. I do not currently have PS or a DSLR, but am working on it! Exif data (please excuse me if I have left out something or included too much. I am totally self-taught, and still learning.): f/3.2, exposure time 1/160 sec., ISO 80, focal length 16 mm, max aperture 3.4.

To see incredible portraits and the suggestions made, visit the i ♥ faces blog or click the button above.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
♥, allie

Hi Allie-
in addition to your edit, we need your SOOC (straight out of the camera, NOT edited) picture in order to give proper feedback.
Can you please add your SOOC to this post? Thanks! :-)

Hey Allie! I know you're shooting with a P&S [that's how i started too!] but can you give us your EXIF data too?? That's helps. :O)

I like this picture, but, personally, I don't like the colors in this edit. I'm not a fan of the coloring in her lips and the washed out effect on her face. To me, it makes her look ill, and it's very unnatural looking. That's just my personal opinion, i know there are some who like edits like this.

I like the edit but I think I would like it better in the more natural coloring with a pop or boost.

Very cute photo!

I am so sorry to have not included everything the first time! Thank you for being patient with me. Thank you very much for stopping by and offering your advice!

I think your SOOC is exposed fine. I think it just needs some fine tuning in your editing...nothing fancy. I'll email you the one I did (although it was in Photoshop, so I don't know how much that will help). Anyhow, sometimes less is more. Just do enough editing to make the colors pop a little, and have everything well defined and sharp. Hope that helps!

I know nothing about photography so for a layman's opinion - I like the shot straight out of the camera.

I actually like the SOOC shot just the way it is!

I went ahead and did an edit and posted it on my blog. Just hover your mouse over the photo, and it will change from the before to the after. This is a very well taken photo. It just needed a couple adjustments to brighten it up.
